To achieve this make an appropriate comment and see where the interviewer goes from there. Some interviewers are uncomfortable talking about their personal life with strangers and are often uncomfortable with changing the topic at hand.
On the other hand, if a cocnversation does develop and the interviewer pauses and goes back on to the topic at hand do not pursue the conversation. Get back into the interview at hand.
Let's say you are uncomfortable to strike up a conversaation about your personal life then obviously this particular tip is not for you.
All in all the interview is to highlight your stellar qualififcations and if you feel those are enough than that is good.
Creating a personal connection of sorts with your interviewer makes you memeorable. It may not guarantee you being hired, but it also shows the interviewer a people skill that you possess that may be vital to the company culture of the job you are seeking.
